Work Song

I don’t want to wake up
Close my eyes,
Stumble blindly to the shower.

Making it in this world
Takes compromise,
I’m selling my life by the hour

Woke up one morning
I was a prisoner
Closing the door
I’d locked myself in tight.

And as I nervously
Check for the key
Keep telling myself
It’ll be all right….

Checking the clock
I’m late again
I wonder how much I can take

Before I make up my mind at last
To make my final escape,
Escape

And as I
March in time
Down the assembly line
What I mistook
For consecrated
Has only been addiction

So this is my conviction
